My name is Taryn Bartram and I am a Social Work diploma student at the Medicine Hat College planning on pursuing my Bachelors of Social Work. I am completing my practicum with Creative Minds Consulting. I have currently been working at a daycare for well over a year with children ages one to five, and I truly love it. I have always felt very connected to children and passionate about supporting them, and I find that working with them not only helps them grow but also allows me to heal and nurture my own inner child! In my practicum, I am excited to learn more about Play Therapy , as I believe play is a child’s natural language and an important way for them to express their emotions, build coping skills, and work through challenges. I am also interested in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques adapted for children, to help them recognize and change unhelpful thought patterns in a way that is simple, creative, and age- appropriate. When I complete my social work degree, I hope to continue working with children in healthcare settings, particularly in the NICU or in Paediatrics. My goal is to support children and their families during some of the most joyful moments and some of the most challenging moments. I hope to bring compassion, advocacy, and creativity into these settings to help families feel supported, understood and empowered

Working with people has always been her passion. Rachel completed a degree in Kinesiology where she worked with individuals who had been in motor vehicle actions and/or were injured at work. However, she felt like there was something she was missing, people she was still waiting to connect with. She headed back to school to complete a Master of Social Work program in Kelowna, BC. Rachel’s education and work journey has meant that she has worked with a variety of clients and in many different systems. She is always excited to meet new clients and start their work together. After completing school Rachel moved to Medicine Hat where her now husband had set up camp, and they could not imagine living anywhere else! They have added a furry friend to their family, Bo. Rachel enjoys coaching with the local speed skating club, skiing, and camping with her friends and family. Rachel believes that there are many pieces that create a person and their life, and she prides herself on learning about all aspects of someone’s life. She feels that by gathering information about family, peers, hobbies, and more allows for her and her clients to build a strong rapport and allows her to create goals that match where a client is at in their life. Rachel believes that everyone deserves a team who will help them remember their strengths and importance. Rachel hopes that she is fortunate enough to be part of that team and cannot wait to help you in moving through the hard times, because everyone needs some help sometimes

Carolina began her career in the helping field as a Behavioral Therapist in British Columbia. She was mentored under BCBA Certified Behavior Analysts, that specialized in working with children on the Autism Spectrum. This experience was fundamental in shaping opportunities in her education and profession.

After accomplishing her Bachelor’s Degree from Simon Fraser University in 2007, Carolina moved back to her hometown of Medicine Hat, where she started working as Behavioral Specialist for both a private agency, and the Medicine Hat Public School District. This involvement gave her experience working with a wide range of children and adolescents with varying complex needs. In addition, Carolina was also fortunate enough to supervise the Mental Health Project (MyPlace and HUG) in Medicine Hat public schools, allowing her to implement universal mental health support for all students. Carolina later completed her Masters in Counselling Psychology and began working at Alberta Health Services as a Mental Health Therapist, both in schools and the Children’s Clinic.

Now, and for the last five years, she has been working in a private practice mainly focusing on children, adolescents and their families. Carolina specializes in play therapy in conjunction with other modalities such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Emotion-Focused Therapy. Master of Counselling Psychology Student (MACP) with Yorkville University. Completed Bachelor Health Sciences majoring in Addictions Counselling located in Medicine Hat.

Sky began her career and passion for helping people of all different ages and backgrounds at a young age. Sky has worked with many populations, including youth, adults, addiction groups, chronically homeless populations, behavioural challenges and severe mental health. Having the ability support individuals at all stages of life is fundamental for Sky’s drive and passion to support people.

While attending the University of Lethbridge for her Bachelor of Health Science majoring in Addictions Counselling, Sky worked under the Lethbridge School Division to develop the skills necessary for supporting youth. Sky furthered her experience by working with youth and families with complex needs as a complex behavioural aide through the Lethbridge School Division. This involvement encouraged Sky to continue on her journey and work with young adults and families with Autism and Down Syndrome.

After completing her Bachelor’s degree, Sky moved on to working in shelters and the community with women and children experiencing DV and chronic homelessness. While working at the shelter, Sky began a secondary journey of running addiction recovery groups for individuals embarking on the journey of sobriety. The passion for making a difference and learning to support all individuals continued to grow. Sky wanted more experience and to build upon her pre-existing passion. This led to working as a Youth & Family Counsellor with Wood’s Homes to break systemic and communal barriers by supporting families in shelter and the community.

Sky has now moved back to Medicine Hat to finish the final semesters of her Master’s degree and continue to embark on her lasting journey. Sky aims to open a private practice of her own to support both adults and youth experiencing mental health. Sky has ADHD herself and aims to support individuals needing support with ADHD. Sky’s favourite modalities aim to focus on Person Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Emotion Focused Therapy. Sky remains versatile and has developed community connections as her passion and knowledge in the field grows. Not only as a student but a growing professional.
